On Sunday, July 5, 2026, you are warmly invited to Museum De Schat van Simpelveld for a special afternoon where art, history, and reflection come together.
The program begins at 1:30 PM with a guided tour of the exhibition Manete Pace. Inspired by the wartime diary Echo van Huize Loreto by Sister Maria Theresia Kummer, the exhibition features remarkable works by German artists Uwe Appold and Roger Nyssen. During the tour, visitors will gain deeper insight into the background of the exhibition and its unique connection to the history of Loreto.
Following the tour, at 2:30 PM, author Markus Morgenweg will give a lecture in German in the Wax Figures Hall (Wassenbeeldenzaal) on the Westwall, the extensive German defensive system from the Second World War. Morgenweg, author of the book Der Westwall im Raum Wassenberg, will guide visitors through the history of this military fortification and its significance for our border region.
The program also includes a visit to the chapel. The afternoon will conclude with coffee and traditional Limburg pie (Limburgse vlaai).
